Some good advice posted - I'd agree with ensuring you have a sound Cardio base. Tabata sessions are proven to be more effective than general CV work.
Always keep in mid what you are training for, don't get sucked in to training like a body builder - keep all exercises functional!

A lot of the MMA gyms are now using heart rate monitors to ensure their fighters are maintaining the correct work rate - there is a good selection at this link
