SIFU I know exactly what you mean mate. I was the same as a brawler in my younger days (17-21).

I was lucky I never got hurt, and I never hurt anyone badly. When I think back now (im 26) im disgusted at myself but I guess these things happen.

But then I got into bodybuilding, got married, had millions of kids and joined the police and everything changed.

A good friend of mine got 8 years for GBH with intent shortly after I joined the old bill. He got into a fight. The usual way like you said. Mouthy mates who turn to friends to back them up. He went too far and got a lot of time. He's out now and is much worse for his time inside.

With regards to my styles, im just making the transition from drug-free bodybuilding, strongman and powerlifting into martial arts.

Im planning to start Judo as I want to study and compete, and its got such a huge competition structure and technical syllabus it will suit me. Plus (though I know technique is the most important element) im already very strong and think I could use my strength well when I have learnt to control balance properly.

Im also going to try an MMA club as I want the hard fitness element to the training and want to learn a broad range. What with the throws and ground fighting, im hoping the Judo will overlap nicely. Especially with BJJ learnt at an MMA club. Ill never be one for striking unless its the best tactical option for the situation but I think fighters can do well in the ring if they can take-down in control and then quickly make the most of the ground situation to finish.

For me Ill be doing 1-2 clubs a week (one judo one MMA) and 2 weights sessions (upper body and lower body for strength). I doubt ill need cardio for a while being new to the martial arts!

I cant wait to start training and learning. Cant wait to actually make the size I've gained (4-5 stone) over the 8 years worthwhile.
