Default UFC Introduces New Vaseline Rule

Following a week of controversy, the UFC has introduced new rules to prevent it happening in future bouts. The UFC will now have a cut man available for each corner. Only two cornermen will still be allowed per fighter, so if a fighter requires attention (either to work on a cut or apply Vaseline) then the one cornerman must exit the cage.

The above rule is a result of the Georges St-Pierre Vaseline controversy where Phil Nurse applied Vaseline to GSP’s face and then to his back. The new rule will be immediately put into place for Ultimate Fight Night 17.

I agree with the decision. I would have been kind of pissed if I was Penn. Pretty hard to pull the rubber guard when opponent is slipperier than an eel in a barrel of snot.

I think its about time this rule has come into place, I have thought about this type of incident many times in various fights, nothing major however, i've read articles about oil absorbing. The UFC making this rule wont really effect them guys.

I've never seen BJ struggle to keep someone in his guard so much and after the comments of others it would definately appear that this isn't a one off incident.

However it is not just simply a case of putting rules in place, they need to be strictly enforced. There was incident with Anderson Silva at the start of his fight against Thales Leites at UFC 97 which indicates that this isn't the case.

At such a pivotal time in the development of MMA, this is the last thing the sport needs and a zero tolerence approach needs to be taken.

Yeah it does need to be monitored closely but putting it on the back!! That's naughty.
