Default Hey everyone

Just discovered this place literally seconds ago, had to join up

Im fairly new to MMA, haven't really started any training as of yet, working together with my flatmate to get in decent enough shape first.

One question though, is 22 too old to be starting out?

See you all around

Hi Dave,

Welcome to the forum mate.

No way! 22 is absolutely fine I think, Im 27 and have only just started.

I suppose though it depends what you want to get out of it, have you had any martial arts/boxing training before?

I think you should just get straight involved with MMA, use it to get into shape and learn at the same time. Thats what im doing, I was so sick of going to the gym being bored to death running on tread mills and that and to be fair, im more phisically drained from a 2 hour session of mma than i am in a whole week at the gym. And its so interesting at the same time.

You dont have to be in tip top condition to train, obviously if you want to compete then thats a different story, but you gotta start somewhere.

Also the people at the classes are useually absolute gentleman and are not gonna just kick the shite out of you, go along and im sure you will love it!!

Welcome to the forum Dave!

Exactly what Perry said really, 22 is definitely not too late to start. I'm 25 and only recently started properly with only a small amount of boxing experience from my younger days behind me.

It also depends how far you want to go with it as well. At my gym there are around 20 fighters that train, but out of them only about 3-4 actually fight at events. Some are still improving and not ready to fight but others are simply going to learn the sport and for its fitness benefits.

At the end of the day the more days you train the quicker you will develop as a fighter. There is a guy at my gym who only started 2 months ago and was weighing just under 20 stone. He signed up and has been going to the gym every day to use the bags and stuff, and roughly doing 3 hours hard work on the bags, skipping ropes etc every day and he's doing the MMA sessions twice a week with our coach. He's now 16 stones and looking pretty trim.

Thanks again for joining!

Thanks for the welcome guys. I've heard the news i wanted to hear then. The only thing i've done is karate when i was younger but im speaking like 11 year ago or something when i was roughly 10-11.

Do you guys have any tips for workouts and so on to get in shape maybe that bit quicker?
I don't wanna put on anymore weight. I'm currently middleweight 13st 3. I'd love to go down to 12st though maybe so im just looking for some lean muscle i think.

any help would be appreciated
