If he moves at you quick best make some distance look to parry and then attack.

So it's not a defensive punch combo. At ninjutsu they taught evade then counter attack. So try step back and look to parry a punch, when his momentum takes him forward look for a quick step left with a left jab and right hook. But after the movement and the left jab you could attack with any combo really.

yea the problem with the back step parry is that the guy i up against just steam roles forward with the cleanest combos so there is no gap!!!

One i tried the other day which i think could be good is-
Step to the opposing side to the punch, drop and step through a wide body hook, letting it catch when ur level. and the follow through with either a roundhouse to the head, or a teap kick as they already have to moving momentum.

The step back isnt exactly a direct step back.

If the punch comes from the attackers right (your left) step diagonally back and your left using your right arm to sweep and parry the shot, immeadiatly following with a left jab. your left jab should travel over your attackers right elbow/shoulder.

that will put him off balance for sure.

Should work eitherway. Just remember to switch arms etc...

Yeh let me know how it goes. Probably shadow box to practice it before hand!
