I'm going to bump this thread back up.

Hows everyones training going?

My knees are getting deadly and kicks are becoming even quicker. The only problem I have at the moment is a lack of energy as I'm currently on a "CUT" so quite a decrease on my daily caloric maintenance. Also, the missus is pregnant so sleep is a luxury I'm missing out on.

Like yesterday for instance. I forced myself to go to the gym for a weight session. Trust me, it was hard just walking there. Got there and there was a boxing session about to start and only one person turned up for it. My coach turned to me and said you up for it? Hardest session I've had for ages lol.

Worth it though. Never give in, reach down, grit your teeth and DO IT!!

As it stands, back in to normal routine with work

Gym 3-5 times a week depending on shifts.
Boxing Monday and Wednesday

eventually il swap boxing for for kick boxing, but its at the same club.

For the future BJJ will be the next step. And then move from kickboxing to muay thai.

I do practice JUDO and have always wanted to learn MMA. But other than that, i would still prefer to learn Jiu Jitsu. It is a great MMA style that involves almost everything.

Personally I would do MMA as it is mainly Jiu Jitsu anyway (well, depending on your teacher). YOu might as well as it'll teach you ground and pound etc.

I have been training in mma for roughly a year now. Our academy follows the Jeet Kune Do concept.

I started off on the mma kickboxing programme which incorporates elements of Boxing, Muay Thai, Kung Fu & Panantukan (Phillipino boxing) and of course kickboxing.

After getting through the foundation period I also began attending classes in Kali & combat submission wrestling.

I am currently a green belt in kickboxing and am definately going to be taking up Brazilian Ju Jitsu in the future which they also teach at our academy.

I Started In Martial Arts When I Was About 7, I Took Up Karate For About 3 Years Reaching Brown Belt. I Got Very Sick At The Age Of 10 And Was In Hospital For About 5 - 6 Weeks, When I Got Out I'd Lost All Motivation And Didnt Go Back Into Martial Arts Untill I Was 17, I Took Up Boxing At A Gym Called West Wirral ABC, I Was There For Quite Some Time Gaining Some Excellent Boxing Skills. Now I Train MMA At The House Of Pain In Birkenhead, Although I Am Looking To Go To Next Generation In Liverpool After My Fight In November...

SIFU I know exactly what you mean mate. I was the same as a brawler in my younger days (17-21).

I was lucky I never got hurt, and I never hurt anyone badly. When I think back now (im 26) im disgusted at myself but I guess these things happen.

But then I got into bodybuilding, got married, had millions of kids and joined the police and everything changed.

A good friend of mine got 8 years for GBH with intent shortly after I joined the old bill. He got into a fight. The usual way like you said. Mouthy mates who turn to friends to back them up. He went too far and got a lot of time. He's out now and is much worse for his time inside.

With regards to my styles, im just making the transition from drug-free bodybuilding, strongman and powerlifting into martial arts.

Im planning to start Judo as I want to study and compete, and its got such a huge competition structure and technical syllabus it will suit me. Plus (though I know technique is the most important element) im already very strong and think I could use my strength well when I have learnt to control balance properly.

Im also going to try an MMA club as I want the hard fitness element to the training and want to learn a broad range. What with the throws and ground fighting, im hoping the Judo will overlap nicely. Especially with BJJ learnt at an MMA club. Ill never be one for striking unless its the best tactical option for the situation but I think fighters can do well in the ring if they can take-down in control and then quickly make the most of the ground situation to finish.

For me Ill be doing 1-2 clubs a week (one judo one MMA) and 2 weights sessions (upper body and lower body for strength). I doubt ill need cardio for a while being new to the martial arts!

I cant wait to start training and learning. Cant wait to actually make the size I've gained (4-5 stone) over the 8 years worthwhile.
