Default What Fighting Styles Do You Train In....

...past and present.

Just a nosey question to see who has done what styles? Which you prefer? How long you've done them? etc. Really just an open question for you to let people know your love and hates.

Personally, I'm a brawler. Started as a young naive lout getting drunk on the weekend. With me though it was my mates that would start the trouble, but I'd never walk away.

From 18 I did a lot of kickboxing which I think encouraged my anger rather than disciplined it. Yes, it's nice having a reputation as a brawler, but the reality of it is that one day you will come very unstuck and end up in one of two places.

First move was to distance myself from the friends I had, second was that I took up Kung Fu with a guy in Bristol Mousavi Kung Fu Academy - Southern Shaolin Hung Kuen Kung Fu in Bristol

Best thing I ever did. It taught me self control, minimum effort to maximum output, weapons training, etc.....everything I think any fighter should be taught nomatter what style. Did this for nearly 4 years. Then had a break for a year or two where I went back to Kickboxing and then started MMA which I did for almost a year.

Been off the map for a bit but back at it now and training hard. MMA all the way. Wish it had been a really big thing 15 years ago, but such is life.

Never really been too involved in any martial arts ect myself, its only UFC that really got me into MMA, I went boxing a few times when i was younger, tried Krav Maga and even tried karate once but never really got into it.

Its only recently that I started training mma and wish it was more publicised sooner as I definately would have got more involved in the sport from a younger age.

I have always enjoyed watching boxing and other martial arts but never really fancied taking part until recently.

Still I hope its not too late for me to get more involved in MMA and not sure if I will ever actually compete but watch this space I guess. Depends how well I take to it I spose. :-)

Yeah well im just trying to find a local Mui Thai club at the mo and a Jarrod has mentioned a club in Leigh on sea that teaches BJJ so Im hoping to Train 3different styles per week.

Dont know if thats jumping in a bit deep though?

As I said im not looking to compete but I wanna try and keep it interesting and I feel learning the different styles will do that as well as giving me a much more all round understanding of MMA!!

You'll be fine with the 3. Just make sure you do what your body tells you. If doing all 3 is too much then just do the 2 and build up.

I think you'll be fine though fella.

Nice post!

I've had a couple of spells of boxing, back when I was around 9 initially for about a year and then again for a couple of years when I was 13. I've also dabbled in Kickboxing but very irregularly with a friend who has done it for years. How long have you been doing Kickboxing?

Most of this training was like 10 years ago and I was still fairly young, so it all needs dusting off and lots of improving. I personally rate Muay Thai as the best stand-up form and will be starting that soon with Perry.

We've also just started the MMA training which I'm loving! I've wanted to learn BJJ for a long time but there haven't been many options locally until recent. Ideally I'd like to be doing the MMA 2 days a week and Muay Thai 1 day a week. But at the moment my body is struggling to handle 1 MMA session per week lol!

The Kickboxing I've been doing on and off for about 3-4 years either die of the Kung Fu etc. I have long legs and can be pretty quick with them.

Just started incorporating Muay Thai into my training and the fitness of it is great. Your fitness will jump up before you know it though.
