When you get a leg kicked checked Dave, its checked by the shin. If you throw in a leg kick at me i'll lift up my leg so your shin hits my shin... its like someone hitting you across the shin with a baseball bat... loads of people break thier legs from leg kicks...

But yea, it did break rather easy..

Hi syko, I wouldnt roll anything on your shins to desensitive them, this is not very good for the bones.

If you want to condition your shins the best things are to kick the heavy bag hard, hard thai pad sessions and sparring.

I have been to train in thailand and I didnt notice anyone doing anything other than the above. Perhaps some people do, but its pretty unhealthy!

I asked the guy I trained private with in Thailand about this and he said it always hurts, you just deal with it afterwards.

heya, something we do occasionally is to wrap some quite thick rope (2cm thick) around a heavy bag and just pracice your kicks, hurts a bit (not stupidly) and gets you used to the pain rather than de sensitsing them.

It also depeneds on what your shins are like anyway, mine are quite boney at the front, so they dont hurt as much as guys i train with.
