i'm actually based in Hadleigh, found this thread via google which lead to me posting. I've become intrested in MMA alot over the last month or two so i've found this forum really intresting.
How old are you guys? How long have you been training/fighting MMA? |

Excellent, I live in Hadleigh too and Jarrods now in Leigh but was in Benfleet.
I've weight trained for 8 years as a bodybuilder and now have just started getting into martial arts. Im trying MMA and doing training for all aspects but am going to take up Judo as well. Whichever I prefer ill dedicate most to. What about you? Im 26, Jarrods 24. |

*coughs* 25 Sir
I just see that we're top of Google for "MMA Hadleigh", is that what you searched Yoshii? Do you have a martial arts background yourself? There's a good mix of guys on here, some with a lot of experience, some just starting out and others that just love watching the sport! No doubt MMA is only going to get bigger! |

I'm 19, 20 the start of next year.
Yeah I was just messing around with google and wondered if there was any gyms nearby that taught MMA just out of intrest, ended up finding this thread and posting ![]() I managed to get into MMA through a friend who's actually in the GB Judo squad (same age as me) i've been along a few times to a small club in purfleet were he trains a couple of times a week, his main club is over in dartford somewhere. I wouldn't really say I have a background in MMA or anything, I do however have family who have a background in boxing, A guy called Scott Gammon is a close friend of one of my cousins who boxes semi-pro I believe. I'm not really out of shape as i'm always active doing different sports, but i'd like to get into better shape/alot fitter. I feel like trying a different sport such as MMA/Boxing/Judo etc, which would give me something to work on and enjoy. |

Good stuff!
The nearest gyms to Hadleigh are: Evolution Gym - Leigh TSG Fighting Academy - Westcliff Dojo - Canvey 5 Elements - Basildon Evolution and TSG are out-and-out MMA clubs. I don't know too much about Dojo but James will know more soon. 5 Elements do some grappling but MMA isn't their main thing. Scott Gammer is a pretty big name in UK boxing! I think he's had a pretty tough couple of years recently but he was a top talent (for UK standards anyway!). I think Audley Harrison or Danny Williams knocked his '0' record eventually. Your mate must be pretty tasty at Judo if he's fighting at national level! Is he thinking about doing a bit of MMA as well? |

Sorry everyone, I've been terrible updating my journal. Been very very busy at work and home and literally just haven't had time. Training is going well though with some great strike circuits, in which I've really improved my kicks to thigh and waist. And 8 reps of incline DB presses with 50kg dumbbells!
Big update coming soon! |

No worries James!
I look forward to your journals, it keeps me motivated. ![]() Saying that, Ive finally shaken off my little lazy spell and have had a really good week, running every morning for 2 - 3 miles and the gym 4 out of 5 days this week. Not been MMA training tho this week as I had a late one at work last night so couldnt get there in time. Also I found out a guy a work runs his own boxing gym and used to be a pro many years ago and said he is willing to train/teach me how to box which is pretty good, and a nice addition to MMA, So from next week I ll be boxing on a monday, MMA on a thursday with 3 gym sessions in between and running every day. I ve only got 5 weeks now till my wedding so need a big final push to get in shape in time. Also found a new de toxing Lotus leaf tea which has made me feel much better and has helped me shed an extra few pounds. Sounds silly and I was sceptical at first but it seem to be working. Its quite expensive at about £10 for 40 tea bags and tastes like Shite! but im gonna finish them and see what results I get. Its called Ming Imperial Lotus leaf tea for anyone that wants to give it a go. Anyway, as I said, I ll look forward to reading your update soon James.

Good to see you're back in the swing of things bud! I knew you would. Didn't realise you looked forward to it, ill make more of an effort!
im the same mate, my boxing bloke has lots of experience. I figured rather than try to master the sport, learn several basic and effective combinations and make them rock hard and unstoppable. Mate if you really want to boost your fat loss, and never plan on doing a tested bodybuilding comp, may i suggest grenade fat burners or sida cordifolia. Google them. They really work. Really. Thats why they're banned from natural comps. They're legal and safe though. Ill do a full update in time.

Hi all! So sorry I have kept the worst journal in history!
I am back and will update soon. Its all changing for me. Not started Judo or MMA yet as I promised the Mrs I would not start anything new until my twin girls have arrived. But I have been training like a maniac, massively on bag work, sparring and a bit of grappling. And have been hammering core and my new thing...beast skills! Im currently sitting at a relatively lean 16st 10lbs and am fitter than ever. Loving cardio and crossfit type training. My strike work has really improved and my kicks have massively increased in speed and power. I can put some good power into neck height kicks now, with my thigh kicks coming on really strong. My boxing is much better, I now dont look like an idiot! And my elbows and knees are more solid and powerful from the clinch. Unfortunately I am without any proper grappling practice at the moment. Which is a shame as its what I love most, and its what I've got both more potential in, and need most practice in! So, the plan. Well currently I am off weights completely for 10 weeks. Im training beast skills only. See Beast Skills - Tutorials for Bodyweight Feats and go to tutorials. All old school bodyweight and gymnastic training. Im working on building bodyweight strength to be able to perform and hold 3 moves - Full free handstand, Planche, Front Lever. My balance and core strength is coming on but its such had work. Yesterday I held a pointed good form handstand in the middle of a room for 6 seconds! I was pleased anyway. All very tiring after a while. Other holds are unbelievably hard. It'll take me a long time. Then in ten weeks time, Ill be back on the weights and then Im experimenting in my first cycle of some more exotic supplements. May I add all legal! But banned from the olympics anyway! Ill update more then. I've not been bothered about it before but fancy a change and seeing what happens. Should make good reading anyway as I post more when I get there. See Epidrol/Epistane on google for updates on what it is. A pro-hormone/designer steroid. Legal but banned from natural bodybuilding. Planning to recomp meaning maintaining bodyweight but with massively reduced fat and increased muscle. Can be dangerous without knowledge so Ill be posting everything I do. Not banned in martial arts, boxing, Judo and certainly not MMA. But thats not for a while. In the meantime I will continue my journey from Novice to fighter. From bulldozer to freight-train. From Rhino to Jaguar. Behold the transformation! God Im a cheesy twat. P.S. just watching 'Never back down'. Awesome Glad to be back |
