Default ex strongman turned mma

hello hope you guys can help me i am very confused.
i am 21 and had been doing strongman training since i was 16, i got up to 23 stone at 6ft2 but because of injury and the fact i dont wanna do steroids i have given up and decided to take up the sport of mma, i have been following it for about 2 years but now a mma gym has opened in my town i feel i would like to do the training aswell. my problem is i have managed to get down to 19stone already through just diet and full body workouts with a limited amount of cardio. my question is can someone advise me on at what weight should i start running as i feel with this bulk i am still carrying i wont be able to run for long or very far, also how many times a week ect. also what other things i can do at home to help me get in shape as i dotn wanna turn up at this gym and make a idiot of myself by lack of fitness, i do 5 varieties of pushups, dumbell stepups, sit ups, ab roller for core, resistance bands and skipping ( although not very good at the latter can only do 50 without hitting my leg )how many days should i train and what are the important supplements for mma, i currently take protien shake mixed with water, amino acids, calcuim, mult vit, iron, vit c, vit b6, vit b12, omega 3, 6, 9, zinc, folic acid, too much or not enough
SORRY FOR THE ESSAY I JUST WROTE JUST HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW, HOPE YOU CAN HELP. THANKS IN ADVANCE

Welcome to the forum mate,

You must be a giant!! lol

We have a member called 'MON' , he is very knowledgable with this sort of thing and competes in weight lifting events. He might be able to offer some good advice as he is a big guy too who is looking to downsize and get into MMA.

Anyway good luck fella.

hello mate, and welcome.

Im other end of the scale so maybe we can help each other.
Last year i was 6'1" and 10 stone, but a year on ive managed to get to 13stone, and do look quite well toned. I do really wanna get to 14 but cnt seem to get there! i hava massive metabolism, meaning i can eat 5meals a day (1 being a meal replacement shake) I really want to add some size to my arms, any advice?

In response to your questions, its never to soon to start running/jogging, just make sure to warm up n down properly else you'll get serious aches (especially at you size) and start small, like a mile jog every 2 days. Also try cycling as its less impact than running!
As far as being laughed at at your gym is concerned, if u get laughed at its not a very good gym. No matter how big people are that come to our gym, if you want to learn and give ur all then people are always willing to help!
As far as supplements go, steer clear of creatine for the moment, and do more cardio than anything - you want to be burning more than your eating for a few weeks. Other than that, itll just take time and commitment.

Hope ive helped and not rabbled on!

Cheers Perry!

Hi mate. Im making the transition too. Im only 16-17 st at 6 foot but am quite lean...ish! I find it hard to run too. I've always been able to sprint but only once and then not for hours! I've also now got achilles tendonitis from sprints and hill sprints at my weight so cant do any now.

What I think mate is a good apprevited weights routing back in the gym twice a week. Simple exercises, low volume, steady rep ranges. But massively reduce rest periods to 30seconds max.
Then use a variety of cardio, and start using the punch bag. Get to the MMA club as soon as possible as nothing will be more tiring.
Dont worry about supplements apart from your protein shake. Just eat clean for 6 meals a day (3 meals, 3 snack/protein shake types) with the usual 1g protein per lb bodyweight, and start to experiment with carbs and fats to see what suits.
Just keep training and you WILL get fitter and better at it all. You will lose loads of weight and get lean. Or you will adapt and be very fit at your current weight and be an unstoppable beast!

There are drug free strongman comps now. Started this year with monster muscle and were very successful. Go on Monstermuscle.co.uk, or their forum or monster gym for info.

I can provide more detail if you have any q's. Obviously thats just some quick points.

Hi, my advice:-Get down to your local MMA gym and start training. The only way to get "fighting fit" is to be fighting. Do what you can and stand out when you can't carry on. You will gain respect for trying hard at your size. Waste no more time, and i pity the guys who have to roll with you!!!!! Good luck.
