Good news!!!
Would be so good for MMA if channel 5 did get the deal, but cant see UFC passing up on the kind of offer that SKY, Bravo, ESPN or Virgin would be willing to offer. I think whoever it goes to will probably end up being better than if Satanta still had it anyway.

UFC 100 will air live on Sky, but not Freeview or Virgin Media
The UFC announced this afternoon (Thurs) that the UFC 100 show will indeed be broadcast live in the UK this Saturday night/Sunday morning - but only to those with a Sky TV dish or a computer with a broadband connection. Starting at 9pm on Saturday evening on Sky channel 433 (formerly Racing World), a look back at the greatest fights in the history of the UFC will air, followed by the UFC 100 Countdown show, and then the live event beginning at 3am UK time. The bad news is that Virgin Media (V-box) customers will NOT be able to see the event on their screens. They will instead have to tune in to UFC.com, where the show will air live, free to everyone in the UK. Furthermore, those living in the Republic of Ireland AND Northern Ireland will be able to see UFC 100 on Setanta Ireland. Northern Ireland viewers have previously had many Setanta Ireland programmes encrypted due to the Province's status as a country of the United Kingdom, but the channel will be opened up to viewers north of the border on this occasion.

This has just been announced. Brilliant news for all UK MMA fans!
Sky and Setanta Ireland have agreed to broadcast the forthcoming UFC 100 tournament to viewers in the UK and Ireland. Last month, the UFC terminated its UK and Ireland broadcasting deal with Setanta Sports, leading to fears about coverage of the fighting tournament in the UK. It was recently confirmed that Setanta Ireland would broadcast the tournament to homes in the Republic of Ireland, but it was not until today that a UK broadcast partner was announced. The event will be shown live on Sky channel 433 and on Setanta Ireland, as well as on the official UFC UK website, free of charge. Coverage from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Nevada will start at 3am BST on July 11. |
