Just not enough publicity, tried going too big too quick.

Their pay-per-view sales were very poor in comparison to the UFC and they spent far too much on fighter contracts, especially for Fedors opponents (Arlovski earned over $1 million for his fight).

Affliction were apparently on the verge of doing a deal with Strikeforce for their fighter contracts but this has fallen through and they're now looking to strike a deal with the UFC.

The UFC will pretty much be able to take whichever fighters they choose, however I don't this greatly affects the prospect of seeing Fedor signing up with them. He had only one fight remaining on his Affliction contract and the UFC are not willing to have him on that sort of deal. Whilst there does seem to have been a shift in the UFC's willingness to allow him to compete in Sambo tournaments, Fedor and his management also want to be able to co-promote events with M-1 Global something the UFC again refuse to do and understandably so.

For those reasons I think Dream is a more likely prospect, however the UFC has a stronger position than ever and it could be that Fedor will finally have to concede and sign with them in order to prove he is the best in the world.

If does join the UFC I wouldn't expect him to fight Brock Lesnar immediately, perhaps Randy Couture first.

Interesting times in the world of MMA!
